In essence, the bottle-in-bottle approach is an alternate method of creating multi-layered bottles. We have put a bottle inside a bottle, giving the advantages of multi-layering and extending product life.

The critical part of this development is that the walls of these bottles are made from three to six layers; LDPE/PET, a barrier layer, and another layer of LDPE/PET/PP. These layers are bonded together in such a way that they appear to be just one layer.

The breakthrough of this technology is that it not only keeps oxygen and moisture out of the bottle but also ensures that the contents, without any additives, can stay fresh for 1 to 2 years after opening.”

Why is bottle-in-bottle revolutionary?

Prior to this, plastic bottles could keep oxygen away from their contents. However, the plastic needed to be layered. Each layer was bonded to the next. This is effective but makes it very difficult to recycle the plastic.

Of course, it’s possible to create a single-layer bottle. Unfortunately, this either won’t prevent oxygen transfer or, if it does, it will not be very durable.

That’s what makes bottle-in-bottle technology such a big step forward. It can prevent oxygen from getting to the contents of your bottle. It is also multi-layered to ensure durability. In addition, it can be recycled as easily as any PET plastic bottle.

We’ve achieved this by allowing the inner bottle to shrink as you use the contents. This prevents air or moisture from coming into contact with the contents. It works when the bottle is first used and continues to work months later.

Why is it important to keep oxygen out?

Oxygen needs to be in your food. It helps to preserve the nutrients, particularly vitamins A, C, And E. However, once the food or liquid has been prepared and stored, you don’t want additional oxygen entering it.

When the contents get too much oxygen a process called oxidization will start. This process changes the flavor of the food and shortens its life. Keeping the oxygen out also means that the contents are more resistant to moisture. You definitely don’t want a moisture build-up as moisture causes bacteria growth which can spoil the taste or make the food go bad.

Is it a better option than a traditional plastic bottle?

. Yes, a traditional plastic bottle may only have one layer, which makes it easy to recycle. However, our bottle-in-bottle design offers superior barrier properties, making it more suitable for preserving product quality, while still being recyclable like a standard PET bottle.

While it is possible to get traditional plastic bottles with multiple layers, the middle layer makes it more complicated to recycle and the plastic becomes brittle.

Fortunately, our barrier bottles are designed with EVOH interlayers, allowing us to successfully batch-produce multi-layer high-barrier high-quality bottles.

The evolution has been challenging but we have resolved issues such as producing molds, creating high-quality durable bottles, and even preforms.

Of course, as mentioned, the bottle-in-bottle tech also ensures the product inside the bottle has a longer life after opening.

How does it compare to bioplastic bottles?

Bioplastic bottles are created from renewable materials. Those that manufacture these have promised they are a viable and cost-effective alternative to the traditional plastic bottle.

However, before you get too excited there are several caveats. The first is that you need to check the bioplastic bottle is biodegradable. The plastic is constructed in sheets and then the upgraded BFS machines, along with a unique multi-layer co-extrusion die, are used in conjunction with the latest software. Once the hardware is matched the machine will take care of producing bottles in bottles.
